Recently Google held the I/O conference in which they launched the all-new Google Pixel 2 as well as Google Pixel 2 XL smartphones. Looks wise these new devices resemble the previous year’s devices and looking for details, there are a lot of changes that the company has made to the new devices both externally as well as internally when compared to original Google Pixel phone. Both the devices are still not out in the market for the detailed review, but here we are with the first hands-on impression of both the new Google phones.
Both the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were available at the Google’s launch event. And talking about the specs of the phones first, most of the rumors that we have been seeing around the internet for Pixel 2 devices turns out to be true.
The Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel XL 2 have different screen size and screen to size ration. However, there is not much difference in the internal hardware of the phones which is almost identical. One interesting thing about the Pixel phones is that the Pixel 2 is manufactured by HTC, while the Pixel 2 XL is manufactured by LG. But they almost look alike and a person cannot tell the difference until and unless you dig deep.
Pixel 2 & Pixel 2 XL Specs
Bot the new Pixel devices run on the Snapdragon 835 processing chip assisted by 4 GB RAM. The storage options available for the users is 64 GB and 128 GB, which according to us is more than enough for any kind of user.
Where all the companies are offering dual cameras in their upcoming smartphones for Depth effect, Google Pixel 2 devices have a single 12 MP shooter which offers depth effect as well. The cameras also possess Optical Image Stabilization this year, a feature that was not present in the previous year’s Pixel device.
Many of the users might not like, but there is no headphone jack in them, but wireless charging.
Single-Camera & Also the World’s Best
We all were expecting a second camera in Pixel devices but Google surprised us by including just one in both the Pixels. Where other manufacturers like Samsung, Apple used additional sensors to get depth feature in the shots, Google Pixel achieves the same as well as better results using a single camera as well as machine learning.
Not only that the DxOMark, the company who is popular for giving an accurate rating to smartphone cameras, rated Pixel 2’s camera 98 out of 100. No smartphone camera has been rated this much till now. Even the iPhone 8, as well as Galaxy Note 8, were able to touch the 94 mark only.
This is the first time we are seeing the concept of an eSim. An eSim or electronicSim is something that connects you to a particular network (Project Fi) even without having a physical SIM inside your phone. No doubt you can still use the physical SIMs in Pixel 2 devices.
In case you are living in U.S., the users can activate the Project Fi whenever and wherever you want.
There are a lot of other things like Pixel 2 devices are water resistant. They are also the first Google devices shipping without a headphone jack. But to compensate that, the company has added a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter in the Pixel box so that the users can pair their traditional earphones with the new Pixels.
Google has promised three years of guaranteed software updates to both Pixel and Pixel 2. The consumers can pre-order the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL smartphones right now on Google store, which you are going to receive by the end of October or early November.
Not only that, people living in Canada, Australia, US, UK, and Germany are also going to get a Google Home Mini along with every Pixel 2 device.
Well, this was a brief hands-on review of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL devices and we can’t wait to exploit them fully and bring out a detailed review once they are out in the market after 19th October 2017.
